While Starbucks has great quality coffee, they certainly ignore the decaf market, especially in retail grocery stores. Sumatra decaf has never been available in the Raleigh, Fuquay Varina, Lillington North Carolina area. They basically have two choices of decaf. How can you be cutting edge if your marketing team totally drops the ball on the growing decaf drinking needs? Even people in North Carolina, with so many NY relocaters here, are becoming conscious of the health benefits of caffeine reduction, and are looking for tasty decaf coffee selections that give you a wide variety of decaf choices. I am on the look out for other coffee manufacturers who decide to offer a wider selection of decaf flavor choices; and when I leave Starbuck's brand I will not easily come back. One great first place to start in widening the decaf selection, is adding Decaf Sumatra, because it is definitely delicious.

I drink regular coffees in the morning, but in the afternoon or evening I perfer to drink decafs. I gravitate toward medium roasts and tried the House Blend decaf, which is quite nice but I wanted an option for a more robust decaf for evening, and Sumatra is an excellent selection. As other reviewers here have posted, Sumatra Decaf is a bold coffee, not bitter, and definitely tastes like regular coffee. When I ground half the bag of beans my whole house smelled like Sumatra Decaf for several days! I agree with the Sbucks tasting notes that this coffee has an "Earthy and herbal" palate, and a smokiness I can't quite put my finger on but it gives it a unique taste.. This is a dark, aromatic, robust coffee and the amount of grounds used will affect the strength. I use fewer grounds to enjoy a gentler version, and I also like to make it strong and use it for cafe au laits #it also makes a killer cappuccino.# The reason I gave it 3 stars was because I'm really more of a medium roast fan, but this is a good decaf experience for a stronger brew. Sumatra Decaf is a very bold coffee, with lots of authority, and is nice on chilly afternoons or after dinner. Happy drinking!

I use 4 bags of Starbuck's Sumatra a month. 2 regular and 2 decaf. I mix the two. I have a Jura Capressa coffee center and between the Jura and your Sumatra it creates a great coffee experience.
By the way, there are just the two of us drinking our (4) 16 oz bags of Sumatra coffees a month.

This is a staple in our household. We love the rich, smoky, robust flavor. We mix it with Starbucks French Roast regular for our morning coffee to cut down on the caffeine but not the flavor. We've tried many other brands and types of coffee, but this is our favorite. Makes good espresso too.

My wife & I have purchased Sumatra Extra Bold for yrs. We always mix 2 lbs. Decaf beans with 1 lb. Reg beans & grind just before brewing. Although this is not scientific, we feel that this mix, this year, is less bold than previous yrs.
Two things have changed. (1) We had to replace our several yrs. old Krupps coffee maker with a new Krupps unit-we always use the stronger flavor, "aroma" setting on this new one. (2) For convenience & a slightly lower price we have purchased the Caf. "DARK SUMATRA" beans in the 12 oz. size from a supermarket, assuming the beans will be the same as ordering by mail from Starbucks. We continue to buy the Decaf. beans by mail from Starbucks.
I look forward to your thoughts.
