This is a very unique coffee. As soon as I opened the bag I got the aroma of fruit. Typically, a Sumatran coffee will hit you with a spicy aroma. That's your first clue you are in for something special.
In the cup the coffee is definitely fruity. I agree with the tasting notes that state "dried fruits". That is spot on. That fruitiness is very enjoyable. Then, the coffee finishes with a hint of spiciness (think cinnamon, not black pepper). Honestly, it's just the right amount of spiciness.
Something else I noticed about this coffee is that there is no bitterness. That helps to make this coffee very drinkable without any added cream or sugar. This coffee is unlike anything you have every tried before from Sumatra.
I brewed this coffee in a French press and the results were great. I used 2 tbsp of coarsely ground coffee for every 6 oz. of water. I used filtered, bottled water just off a boil (195-205 degrees). I steeped my coffee in the press for 4 minutes and the result was an amazing cup of coffee.
Give this coffee a try. You will not be disappointed.

This coffe has has a dark rich taste with a subltly complex flavor. Compared with the Regular Sumatran beans, the sun dried beans maintain a much richer and darker flavor. Suprisingly smooth with the rich darkness associated with hand cured coffees that I have had in many different countries throughout Eastern Europe, Asia, So Asia and Oceania.

When I smell this coffee, the first thing that hits my nose is that amazing aroma. I grabbed notes from that drying process that are distinct and herbaly. I paired this coffee with my morning oatmeal, and the flavors of the dried fruit, nuts, and the brown sugar made everything come to life even more. I love this coffee and it's full body with an incredible finish and great mouthfeel. Quite an experience.

I have tried many sumatra whole beans from all over and this Sun-Dried Sumatra bean is the best. Great smell when it is being brewed in my french press. One cup is all I need. I love the full bodied flavor.

The jam notes described are accurate. I love the aroma and taste of this coffee. It reminds me strawberries. It's great with toast & jam and berries. I've purchased it a few times already and will continue to restock until it's no longer available. I love this coffee!

I rank this Sun Dried 2nd out of all the Sun dried reserve coffee they have released this year. Has a darker roast that the other 2 (Harrar, & Sidamo) which works for me. Worth buying a couple bags to have when you want something different and unique. I would try it and buy it over the Sidamo if that helps anyone. Shoud be the reverse I woud have thought

First time I tried at Starbucks store, using clover machine, I thought it was OK but a weak taste. Next time, they must have used a little more coffee because I thought it was very good because it had a lot of taste. Last couple times it's been pretty weak. The clover machine is a hassle for the employees to use and it seems like they may want to deter people from ordering it there - my perception. It's variable depending on the amount of beans they grind, etc. so it's not like drawing an automatic espresso shot. I'll buy a bag and make it at home because when it was good, it was very good.

As a regular Sumatra drinker, this was truly a treat! I didn't think you could perfect the already wonderful Sumatra, but I stand corrected. This bean brews a sweetly fragrant & fruity tasting coffee that is in a word, AMAZING! Well worth the money for this reserve. My husband and I save this for our weekend brew so we can linger over the cup and savor the flavors! Thank you Starbucks for bringing us this wonderful treat! We will definitely order again!

With an aroma faintly reminiscent of dried grass, this also has a lighter flavor than Starbucks regular Sumatra. I prefer the latter, price aside, although this certainly isn't bad.

I've made many a cup of coffee with Sumatra beans, but none have compared to the rich, full flavored, aromatic brew that came out of my grind and brew this morning! The flavor was so different, and pleasing that I made a second pot, and am just finishing my fourth cup this evening.
I liken this coffee to my previous favorite: Yemen Mocha Java (by Diedrich's)

I was really disappointed that this was not very strong. Given the price point, I have to rate it low. It's not bad, it's just not strong. Regular Sumatra is a much better coffee.

This is the 2nd time ever to have had the opportunity to try a sun dried coffee and I must say, it should be illegal to make it any other way. The taste of the fruit is heavily favored in the bean this way and just mouth watering. 2nd best coffee I've ever tasted next to the sun dried sidamo a few years ago.

Sun Dried Sumatra - whether you order it as a pour over, home brew or Clover Brew it (the last is the best) - is an amazing coffee. It has a full body taste that is truly for the coffee drinker. It awakens your senses and powers me up for the day!
It has a very low acidity so you won't feel weird after enjoying your morning brew. It is very smooth and rich in coffee flavor. Not to mention, naturally sweet so you dont have to dress it up with added calories.
This coffee will take you places - so choose your adventure wisely!!

Worst Coffee in the world

This coffee was recomended by a SB employee at $18 per 1/2 lb. It smelled like black berries but I thought it would brew better as it came so highly recomended. Unfortunatly the coffee did not live up to its reputation and in fact tasted like a 7 Eleven grape slurpee. I brought it back to the SB store but the employees looked like deers in headlights and did nothing about my disatisfation. I bought some French roast and left. I gave the Sumatra to my brother who said "it is horrible. It tastes like dirt covered berries. the after taste is even worse." Enjoy, we didnt.

I eagerly picked up a bag of this as soon as it was available. From much past experience, I've never gone wrong with any iteration of Sumatra coffees from Starbucks. The Black Apron Exclusive Aged Sumatra of a few years ago was my absolute favorite and I snatched up as much as I could find. This variety however, while at least palatable, did not impress me much at all. It has a much too fruity taste for me, much more along the line of Kenya or Guatamala Antigua. Most Sumatra roasts from Starbucks that I've tried have had a darker rich smokey taste. I had saved this for when I had a family member visiting and even she, unprompted by me, commented that it tasted strange. Definitely not a horrible coffee by any means, but not fitting of my palate at all. And that's the first time I've ever said that of a Starbucks Reserve coffee.
No, I do not recommend this product.

As soon as I brewed it, I knew it was going to be good. The flavor profile says hints of rhubarb jam and tarragon. You can smell the fruitiness as it brews.
As with all the other reserve coffees I've tried, brewing at a precise temperature makes a difference. I like my coffees hot, so I have to be careful to wait a bit for these.
